Patches Through Time is a time travel story with relatable and believable characters and a mysterious device. I enjoyed the book once I got into it, took me a couple of chapters.
The relationship between Jake Patch and his daughter Cassie is beautifully drawn. The Drusilla character is not human, described as a sprite but comes across more of an opinionated instruction manual for the time travel device. We don't get to know what her agenda is.
Details of the historical locations in Hastings, and the people have obviously been well researched and are very convincing. I enjoyed it very much once the momentum kicked in.
The character Lucia, a skilled glassmaker, is very intriguing, I hope the author will write her story too.
This book has been described as a 'young adult' story. It's a label I reject. Patches Through Time is quite suitable for anybody from a well read nine year old to someone of 108 who lived through World War 2.
